Etonnant, il n'y a pas qu'en Angleterre et en Allemagne qu'on fait de la bonne musique électronique, il y a aussi au Canada. Ici, Toronto pour être plus exact. Crystal Castles sont Ethan Kath et Alice Glass, le premier joue des instruments pendant que la seconde "chante". La house se voit dépossédée, on a plus affaire à de l'electro mais à une voix. Ca hurle, ça dégobille sa haine en épars cris stridents, c'est désarticulé mais puissant, c'est du n'importe quoi aux mélodies intenses et concises. Dépendance immédiate.
Le style du groupe, c'est ça : "Crystal Castles' music uses unusual instrumentation such as placing an Atari 5200 sound chip inside a keyboard in order to produce a sound that has been described as having "ferocious, asphyxiating sheets of warped two-dimensional Gameboy glitches and bruising drum bombast pierce [the] skull with sheer shrill force, burrowing deep into the brain like a fever". April 2005, Alice Glass recorded vocals for five original instrumentals by Kath. The band's first single was recorded "accidentally": a microphone test by Glass was released into the public domain through MySpace as "Alice Practice" in September 2005.
